1925년에 설립된 Vancouver School of Applied and Decorative
Art가 그 전신이며, 캐나다의 예술, 디자인 분야를 대표하는 우수한 졸업생들을 배출해
왔다. 1995년부터는 독자적으로 예술 학사 학위를 수여할 수 있게 명실공히 캐나다를
대표하는 예술 대학으로 인정 받고 있다. 1987년 밴쿠버 시내 중심가의 남쪽에 있는
그린 빌 아일랜드 지역으로 캠퍼스를 이전, 1994년에 최신 설비를 갖춘 새로운 캠퍼스가
완성되었다. 도서관에는 많은 서적, 잡지, 비디오 등이 갖추어져 있으며, 대학이 있는
그랜빌 아일랜드는 밴쿠버 일대 예술가들의 스튜디오와 갤러리가 있어 예술을 공부하기에는
이상적인 환경이다. 이 대학의 명칭은 20세기 전반, 브리티시 컬럼비아 주 연안 일대의
풍경과 북부 연안에 거주하는 인디안의 세계를 회화로 남긴 화가 에밀리 카에서 유래되었다.

Internship:
Students may propose a specific research project
to be conducted at a public gallery or museum.
A written proposal must be submitted at least
one full term in advance. The course grade will
be based on a major written product of the internship
period. Students must be in the third or fourth
year of their programs in order to be considered.
An internship must be approved by the Dean and
will normally be for three credits.
